MYKITA was founded in 2003 in Berlin by four friends who shared a vision of rethinking traditional eyewear construction. The company's name comes from the German word “Kita”, short for Kindertagesstätte, referencing the former nursery that served as its first headquarters.
From the beginning, MYKITA focused on eliminating conventional hinges, screws, and unnecessary components to create frames that were lighter, more flexible, and more durable. In 2004, the company introduced Collection No1, featuring a patented hinge system constructed without screws or welded joints.
MYKITA later introduced MYLON®, a lightweight polyamide material manufactured using selective laser sintering. This advanced 3D-printing process enabled the brand to create complex forms while reducing material waste and expanding the possibilities of eyewear engineering.
Today, every frame is still handcrafted at MYKITA HAUS in Berlin, where design, research, prototyping, manufacturing, and quality control take place within the same creative environment.
